While on leave from Afghanistan in 2012, a young soldier leaks information about the ongoing war. At his/her family home in Missouri, a voice on the phone, that may or not be their mother, threatens to expose present and past secrets if they do not confess their guilt.

Inspired by the story of Chelsea Manning, mockingbird is an exploration of trans identity, surveillence, queerness, whistleblowing, and governmental control.
